Mechanical Design Engineer

Design the machines. You will take a concept from internal technical specification through to released documentation, then stay with it through build, commissioning and field support. Our customized saws and fabrication centers are used by leading manufacturers in the window, door and automotive industries.

What you will be doing

Design

  • Design machines and assemblies from original ideas or known concepts, starting from the internal technical specification and carrying through to released documentation for parts purchasing.
  • Prepare fabrication drawings, assembly drawings, manuals, supporting documentation and BOMs in line with project scope.
  • Work in 3D CAD, and configure standard products to project scope.
  • Specify actuators such as cylinders and motors, specify pneumatic valves and draw pneumatic schematics.

Data management and product maintenance

  • Ensure design data follows revision rules and BOM data stays current.
  • Establish and maintain standard assemblies.

Quality

  • Work to published department checklists and mechanical design processes.
  • Take part in continuous improvement activities.

Manufacturing and service

  • Assist assembly personnel during the machine conditioning phase.
  • Help manufacturing with assembly steps and solve difficulties relating to the design or drawings.
  • Support the service team troubleshooting in the field, and assess upgrades or retrofits to legacy equipment.

What you need

  • BSME or a BS in Engineering with a mechanical or electro-mechanical concentration, or equivalent experience and education.
  • Experience with a 3D CAD system.
  • MS Office experience.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel up to 15%.

Nice to have

  • 2-5 years in a mechanical engineering position.
  • Experience with a PDM/PLM vault for revision control.
  • Solid Edge CAD experience.
  • Machine tool design experience including saws, drills, routers, fixtures, die work and servos.
